For skiing and boarding enthusiasts Crested Butte has something to offer every level of ability. The lower half of the mountain provides miles of wide beginner runs – indeed Crested Butte likes to brag about having the ‘best corduroy in the West’ - and there are intermediate trails running from the very top of the mountain down to the base area.
Experts have simply masses to choose from including the notorious 60 degree Rambo run, the steepest in North America, and any number of double-black diamond EX (for extreme) runs - some with shocking names like ‘Bodybag’ – the likes of which are used in the U.S. Extreme Skiing Championships held here each year.
Combine this with excellent terrain parks, a cracking ski school and over 45 kilometers of well-maintained Nordic trails for cross-country skiing and anyone wanting to get out on the snow is amply catered for.
Non-skiiers can try snowmobiling, ice-skating, tubing, snow-shoeing, sledding, hot-air ballooning, sleigh rides, dog-sledding and the list goes on… it may be a small town but it certainly has it all!
