Horse Riding

Saddling up at Crested Butte! What better way to marvel at the mountain scenery than meandering through the wilderness on horseback? This is cowboy country after all! Crested Butte has two excellent ranches providing horse-riding adventures and winter sleigh rides for the whole family to enjoy.

Fantasy Horseback Adventures
From their summer stables in Gothic (an old gold mining town about 2 miles from the condo) they offer a variety of excursions ranging in length from a couple of hours to overnight camping adventures. Their ‘feature ride’ follows the East Maroon pass, climbing to almost 12,000ft before descending into the chic resort of Aspen.

Horse Stabling Colorado StyleIn the winter they move the horses to Almont (half way to Gunnison) and offer a daily one hour ride at 1pm which includes a stop in the middle for hot cocoa.

The minimum age for horseback riding is 7 years old, but younger children can be lead around the corral by their parents.

Lazy F Bar Ranch
This ranch is located 3 miles south of the town of Crested Butte up the East River Valley and offers a selection of riding packages many of which include a meal. The Ranch also hosts weddings and special events so catering is a major part of their business. For example, in the summer you can join their early morning foray into the wilderness and round it off with a hearty breakfast served al fresco. Or you might prefer their one hour wagon rides – ideal for family groups with young children – which ends with a campfire cookout.

Winter sleigh-rides involve a 35 minute trip to a 1950’s cabin on the banks of the East River where a 5-course dinner is served.
