Hiking

A Hiker gets that Crested Butte feeling! From a gentle amble in the countryside to scrambling the peaks, there’s hiking to suit everyone’s appetite in the stunning landscape surrounding Crested Butte and with millions of acres of National Park on your doorstep the options are limitless.

Fit and adventurous hikers could take on one of the routes to Aspen – varying in length from 10.5 miles to 17.7 miles under the towering 14,000ft peaks of Maroon Bells; those with less stamina can enjoy any number of moderate trails, some starting literally yards from the San Moritz Condos.

Hikers Enjoy the view from the top of Red lady chair liftFor those who wish to take in the scenery with the minimum of physical challenges it’s possible to catch a ride to and from the summit of Crested Butte Mountain on the chairlift!

Hiking is massive here. We can recommend some excellent outfitters and experienced local guides if you’re into some serious hiking. If you want to go it alone, detailed trail maps (and lift tickets) can be purchased from the Treasury Centre in the base area.
